Abstract |
This study`s purpose is to obtain data necessary to ensure that cosmetics are safe for human use. According to the result of the survey that covered the system that provides an indication of ingredients and the usable period of cosmetics, it was found that 16 of 20 highly sold foreign brands included in a 2006 survey abided well by the regulations of their own countries, whereas 4 of 20domestic brands abided well by the indicated ingredients and the date of manufacture, but did not abide by the indication of the usable period prescribed for functional cosmetics. Therefore, it is highly recommended that the usable period should also be included in the indication system covering the total ingredients to be implemented beginning on October 18, 2008. Moreover, as even the definition of natural cosmetics has yet to be prepared, an independent management of natural cosmetics seems necessary. Additionally, a systematic regulation indicating the usage method and the precaution for cosmetics is necessary. In this study, a survey on 20 highly positioned brands sold in department stores was carried out. Those brands sold only on the Internet and through large-scale marts, as well as small companies` brands were excluded from the survey. Therefore, a survey involving a wider array of products should be carried out in an ensuing study. As the system that indicates the total ingredient is already in place, a quantitative analysis will be needed to confirm if the ingredient and limit of the mixing are being observed. |
