| Abstract |

This study examined the hair dyeing operators who work at beauty salons in Seoul, Korea and the current status of training for dyeing knowledge and the using of oxidized hair dye agents with its safety and side effects were analysed. The analysis of hair dyeing operators showed several significant differences with regard to the education program for dyeing knowledge. Only 35% of the respondents regularly took the dyeing knowledge from education program. However, 82% of respondents recognized the necessity of official institutions for education program to provide dyeing knowledge systematically. In addition, 90% of the respondents replied that dyeing education program should be included in the basic hair designing education program and it would proposed to include the education of dyeing knowledge in the examination for a hair designer`s license. Regarding the patch test, around 16% of the respondents actually performed the patch test before hair dyeing and however, 67% of respondents recognized the necessity of patch test before hair dyeing. This results shows that there are great gap between the recognition on the necessity of patch test and actual status of performances for patch test at the working sites. For the prevention of side effects of hair dyeing, 60.7% of the respondents replied that the systematic and sufficient education would be necessary with the professional education program and it would be necessary not only for beauty but also the prevention of side effects of hair dyeing. In conclusion, it is suggested that the ways for the inclusion of subject for hair dyeing in the basic hair design education, the expansion of education institutions for hair dyeing knowledge program and the performance of patch test before hair dyeing should be taken measures. |
