Effects of Motivation for Major Selection and Self-efficacy for Career Decision-making of University Students Majoring in Cosmetology on their Job-seeking Stress

Abstract
The beauty-related industries are being rapidly developed due to a rising desire for beauty to follow the trend quickly and improve one's appearance. Along with such changes in society, educations on a wide range of subjects are provided in the service and cosmetology fields and the number of students wishing to major in cosmetology is on the rise. Since more students wish to major in cosmetology, major fields in cosmetology are sub-divided, ensuring more opportunities for employment, but it is also true that students are under a lot of job-seeking stress according to the major selection, confidence, character, home environment, working conditions and environments. Accordingly, this study aims to examine the motivation for major selection and self-efficacy for career decision-making targeting university students majoring in cosmetology and their effects on job-seeking stress. This self-administered survey targeting university students majoring in cosmetology at 4-year universities and 2-year colleges in Gwangju, Jeollanam-do Province and the capital area was carried out as the method of this study; 341 collected self-administered questionnaires were used in this study. AS a result of First, through carrying out the multiple regression analysis and examining the effects of motivation for major selection on the job-seeking stress, it was proven to have significant effects on the job-seeking stress in order of intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation. Therefore, as the intrinsic motivation is lower and the extrinsic motivation is higher, the job-seeking stress is higher. Second, as a result of examining the effects of self-efficacy for career decision-making on the job-seeking stress, it had significant effects on the job-seeking stress in order of goal selection and future plan of self-efficacy for career decision-making, and as the goal selection is lower and the future plan is higher in the self-efficacy for career decision-making, the job-seeking stress is higher. To sum up the above results, the motivation for major selection and self-efficacy for career decision-making of university students majoring in cosmetology have significant effects on their job-seeking stress. Therefore, these results suggest that could be utilized as preliminary data for preparing a measure to control job-seeking stress of university students majoring in cosmetology and improving their adaptability.
